Education

The growing population in Abbotsford accesses world-class education. Our school district includes 30 elementary, 8 middle and 9 secondary schools, all of them modern. But our smarts don’t stop there. Over half our residents have earned a post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree.

University of the Fraser Valley (UFV)

Our top-ranked university generates an economic impact estimated at $500 million. The fully accredited establishment teaches over 15,000 students a year on our campus plus those in Chilliwack and Mission, Hope and Agassiz. UFV also boasts a growing presence in Chandigarh, India.

UFV is globally recognized for student success, its quality learning environment, student-faculty interface, registration process and programming. UFV is also proud of its work with local communities.

More than 100 programs offer small class sizes and personal attention in a hands-on environment. Two masters programs are also making their mark here. Yet the school hasn’t forgotten its roots and continues to offer many trade and technology programs.

Rick Hansen Secondary School of Science and Business

Rick Hansen is one of Canada’s national treasures. The school that bears his name is the province’s first science and business secondary school. It prepares students for professional careers and post-secondary studies. It also offers resources for teachers and administrators to:

  • increase awareness about people with disabilities;
  • increase awareness about accessibility and inclusion issues;
  • empower young people to make a difference.

The program has reduced bullying, improved attitudes towards disability and led to initiatives that have further improved schools and communities. It’s a winner, just like Rick.
